On or about October 25, 2018. Board received another consumer complaint, on behalf of her uncle, who is 95 years old, was a patient of a dentist in Lewisville, Texas. The complaint stated that in September 2018, the patient visited the dentist for treatment. The treatment consisted of a new full upper denture over a partial lower denture, and the dentist took impressions for the dentures. The patient paid $1,998.00 in advance through his debit card for his treatment.
The patient rescheduled his next appointment, which was canceled by the office. The office did not attempt to reschedule the patient’s appointment. The nephew of the patient called the office several times but did not reach anyone. The patient was not notified that the office was closed. He did not receive his dentures from the dental office of the dentist, and visited a different dentist for treatment; the patient requested a refund of $1,998.00 that he paid in advance for his treatment.
The Board’s investigator contacted the dentist. The dentist provided incomplete records of the patient, including patient health history, treatment plan, consent forms, risk benefits and alternative treatment, privacy notices, and the financial ledger. Based on the records, the dentist did not perform a thorough dental examination
The dentist is subject to disciplinary action in that he was repeatedly negligent in the care and treatment of the patient and in his cooperation with the Board’s investigation. And that the dentist was negligent by acting unprofessionally when he abandoned his patient and failed to fully cooperate with the Board.
The dentist had to face such consequences due to the reason that he failed to hire a dental attorney for the complaint case.
