A medical practitioner’s reputation, especially for a dentist is important. Having a good reputation means a lot of patient likes the service and care that you offer. A bad reputation means bad service and care to patients. In today’s generation, a lot of people rely on good reviews of a dental clinic. But if patients are dissatisfied with the service and the care, they will leave a bad review, or worst will file a complaint and it will not be good for dentists. Having to deal with complaints is a hassle, as it is a long process. But if this happens, always remember that a dental attorney is always willing to help any dentist.

On or about January 16, 2015, a patient consulted with a dentist in Fort Hood, Texas regarding a broken porcelain pontic at #7 on her anterior bridge, which had exposed metal. After advising the dentist that she could not afford a new bridge, the dentist suggested that a crown be placed on the bridge. On January 22, 2015, the dentist took impressions for #7. On February 13, 2015, the dentist placed a veneer over the broken pontic, but it came off numerous times.

The patient had missing teeth at #18 and #19. The dentist attempted to replace them with a fixed bridge. On February 20, 2015, the dentist prepared teeth #20 and #21 for a bridge to be made with a rest on the crown on tooth #17. However, these teeth were carious. On March 13, 2015, the bridge did not seat properly and new impressions were taken. On March 20, 2015, the patient advised the dentist that she did not want to continue her dental treatment with him, and on May 22, 2015, the dentist requested a full refund from the dentist. Therefore, the dentist never placed the final bridge on #17 through #20.

Due to the above incidents, the dentist is facing disciplinary action. The cause for discipline was due to the dentist’s unprofessional conduct in that he committed repeated acts of negligence whereas the dentist deviated from the standard of care in the community and was negligent by recommending and performing a procedure that he knew was not viable and would likely fail. And that the dentist acted unprofessionally and violated applicable provisions of the law in his care and treatment of the patient.

The course of the case would have resulted differently that is favorable to the dentist but it turned out negatively as the dentist will face the consequences of his actions. Having a dental attorney when facing the Board of Dental will be a sigh of relief for the dentist, but unfortunately, he failed to do so.
