In Texas, the government has created a special agency that has the jurisdiction to handle controversies and cases involving the dental profession. Every dentist subjected to a disciplinary proceeding or administrative case before the Board is given an opportunity to be heard and defend himself from all accusations. This every dentist with a pending case before the Board is to encourage hiring a dental attorney.

Unfortunately, there are some dentists who fail to find the right dental attorney to handle their cases. As a result, most of them would be adjudged liable for the complaints. This usually leads to the revocation of a professional nursing license. This is what happened to a dentist in Houston, Texas.

On or about June 22, 2017, the dentist fell below the minimum standard of care in the treatment of the patient. Specifically, the dentist failed to adequately address the patient’s high blood pressure prior to providing treatment. The dentist also proceeded with treatment when the patient’s blood pressure of 214/131 indicated he was in hypertensive urgency and the patient stated she did not feel well. She also failed to retake the patient’s blood pressure once the patient stated she felt well enough to proceed with treatment and failed to reschedule the patient’s appointment and send the patient to her primary care physician for evaluation.

On or about September 25, 2015, the dentist impermissibly delegated to her dental assistant the final placement and adjustment of an interim removable partial denture (RPD) of the patient.

Because of this, the dentist was summoned by the Board to give her a fair chance to defend her case. She was given the chance to defend herself at the Board.

Unfortunately, she was found her guilty for the complaint against her and her license was suspended. She lost the case simply because the dentist failed to find an effective and efficient dental attorney. Avoid committing the same mistake she did.
