When it comes to cases and complaints regarding dental issues, a dental attorney is needed when attending hearings before the Board. The Board does not allow those who wish to exceed the scope of their practice as a dentist. A certain dentist in El Paso could’ve done this but failed to hire a good dental attorney.
On or about April 25, 2011, through March 26, 2012, the dentist engaged in dishonorable conduct in the prescribing of a drug for her patient. Specifically, she maintained no dental records on the patient but prescribed several amounts of controlled substances for the patient.
The Board took action to the case, summoning the dentist to defend against the accusation. During the hearing, the dentist t states that she wrote prescriptions to the patient because she noted periodontal inflammation and she pointed to her mouth and said she was in pain. She said that she could not say she was lying. She said that she finally had to turn her away because she was demanding specific Oxy 10-325 Percocet but she refused to write any more prescriptions to her.
The dentist further states that she routinely prescribes Oxycodone and Hydrocodone in quantities of 40+ per prescription because she wants to make sure her patients have “plenty” of pain pills in case their pain peaks the day or more following an extraction. She said that she does not fear that anyone will overdose on the quantities of medication she prescribes if they follow her dosage instructions.
Unfortunately, the dentist failed to hire a good dental attorney to help her defend her case.
As a result, the dentist was sentenced to disciplinary action to ensure that she will never commit such acts again.
Losing your license may greatly affect your future career, but only if you failed to hire a dental attorney for the case. There are some dentists who missed their chances to get their license saved from revocation just because they weren’t able to hire any dental attorney to defend them. Don’t let the abovementioned dentist’s story happened to you.
The case would have yielded a different result if the dentist was able to hire a dental attorney. So if you also have the same cases or concerns, it’s best to contact Dental Attorney Yong J.
